Schools · A Welcome from the Head Teacher

Croeso — a warm Welsh welcome to you.
Tarren School and Mill Haven are two settings led by one team, here for learners across South Wales with additional learning needs, learning disabilities and complex needs. Whichever site your child joins, they'll find the same thing: people who take the time to understand them, and who believe in what they can do.
We put each learner at the centre of their own journey, building independence, confidence and a strong sense of belonging through The Tarren Way, our rights-led approach. Learning happens in the classroom, in the community and out in the fresh air.
To families: we'll welcome you, listen to you and work alongside you every step. To our learners: this is your place to shine.
The team at Tarren School & Mill Haven

Why it's unique Learning is highly personalised, often following the EQUALS curriculum with its emphasis on functional skills, independence and community access, supported by The Tarren Way — our bespoke, rights-led framework — and recognised outcomes through ASDAN, AQA Unit Awards and NCFE, with a strong focus on preparing for adult life.
How we support pupils A holistic, therapeutic approach puts wellbeing alongside learning, with Speech & Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, music, sensory and relaxation approaches and pastoral care. From referral onwards we work closely with families and local authorities so everyone feels welcomed and involved.
Feedback and recognition

Joining our school
Pupils are usually referred to us by a professional. We then follow a careful transition process to make sure Tarren and Mill Haven School is the right fit for each pupil and to help them settle in well. This may include visits to the school, taster sessions, observations in the pupil's current setting and initial assessments. We then put together an individual education plan and meet with the family to agree the placement.
